Tours

Experience the Indiana State Library’s exceptional architecture and notable collections with one of our free tours. Explore the building and gain an overview of the resources available to visitors. Customized group tours are also available upon request.

  • Architectural Tour: Learn about the many architectural features of the building, including its Neoclassical Revival style with Art Deco influences.
  • 30-45 minutes

  • Behind-the-Scenes Tour:  Go beyond the public areas and discover staff‑only spaces at the Indiana State Library, giving visitors a rare glimpse into the work that preserves and protects Indiana’s history.
  • 30 -45 minutes.

  • Family History Tour: This orientation tour provides an in-depth look at the library’s genealogical holdings, perfect for genealogists and family historians. You can request a tour for as few as two people or for a larger group.
  • 30 minutes.

  • Flexible Research Orientation Tour: Receive guided instruction on how to navigate the library’s resources. A condensed tour may be requested, as needed.
  • 45 min- 60 min

  • Indiana Young Readers Center Tours:

  • Pre-school children can tour the Indiana Young Readers Center, explore, hear a story, and do an activity.
    30 minutes.

    School-aged children can visit the State Library, have a tour, and learn about Indiana with our Giant Floor Map.
    30 minutes

    School Tour Groups can explore the State Library, enjoy a guided tour, and learn about Indiana. Many groups choose to combine their visit with a tour of the Statehouse and the Statehouse Education Center.
